Thursday 26 November 2009. I woke up at 07:30 and felt tired. Perhaps it was the excitement that all the other days had been filled with that left one feeling quite drained. It wasn’t a bad thing, it was just, well, one of those things. The trip had been really memorable and I’ll always look back fondly to the amazing things were saw and experienced there, but before I get too teary eyed in my story, we still had one day left to paddle.

Wednesday 25 November 2009. This day we were to be filmed by national television. It was bound to be interesting. We headed off to the hotel where we stayed our first night and met up with them there. Then back up to the must loved Batang Sangir. The plan was to paddle the normal middle section as it was scenic and fast paced at the put in, with a solid class 4 rapid at the end of the end section too, both of which could easily be filmed.

Tuesday 24 November 2009. It was decided we’d drive back to the Sungai Lambai to have a look at the Tangsi Empat Falls.Tangsi means jail and Empat means four. But as in many Indonesian words they are said swopped around in English – so Four Jail Falls. This beastly drop consists of a top drop which is probably runnable, followed by an in between rapid and then the final drop. The final was the one we wanted to look at.

In the last article I said I drifted to sleep. Wrong! Reading my notes on the trip I see my rubber arm was twisted to go and drink some beer so off we went. After many beers later we made our back to the house, I felt a bit drunk, and was not the only one. Good times! Lucky was sleeping on Hugh’s shorts in his room and Celliers is allergic to cats so I took Lucky to my room and let him sleep on my laundry, the poor, skinny little thing. At 03:45 I woke up with a bladder about to burst and Lucky was still peacefully in cat land.
